Western Digital debuts new Xbox 360 and PS3 compatible 320GB passport size HDDs


"Today, Western Digital Co., one of the largest HDD ( Hard Disk Drive ) manufacturer has just launched it’s newest - 320GB and 250GB My Passport™ Elite™ Portable USB Hard Disk Drives -, which according to Western Digital, the new USB HDDs are designed to ” make it easy to securely carry thousands of songs, videos or photos in style. ”

The new My Passport Elite USB HDD as can be seen from the photo are small in form factor and each weighs around 5 ounces or 141 grams, they are pretty much as big as a passport book, hence the name. These new HDDs come with full USB 2.0 standard support with a maximum transfer speed of 480 Mb/s and they are powered by the USB bus, so do not require any other external power source.

Jim Welsh, Western Digital Branded Products and Consumer Electronics’ Vice President and General Manager said : “Your digital content is as personal today as photos in shoeboxes and racks of CDs were yesterday. The device that securely holds your content should be just as personal. Having listened to our customers, we are expanding the options available on our WD Passport family of personal storage devices with more features, content management functions and fashionable design. ”

According to Western Digital’s press release, the new My Passport™ Elite™ Portable USB Hard Disk Drives also have plug and play capability with video gaming consoles such as Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony Playstation 3.

One 320GB My Passport™ Elite™ Portable USB Hard Disk Drive currently carries a price tag of $199.99, while it’s the 250GB brother carries a price tag of $169.99."
